Freedom

Freedom is

Like oxygen,

Like breathing,

You only notice

Once it's gone,

Once someone

Forces it to end.

    Notes and Asides
    ------------------------

I started this one on a Thursday night in April. Ironically, I finished it before our previous AG resigned.

I am ambivalent. On the one hand, I sometimes feel my life has prepared me for this moment in ways others' lives haven't. Especially my early life when I had little power, or at least others with more held that power over me. On the other hand, I am tired of constantly having to fight.

I know a psychologist or counselor would likely ask me, what would happen if I stopped? I don't know, I guess someone else would win? The follow up might be, would that be a such bad thing? Only if I stop breathing, my friend. Only if I die at someone else's hand. I have an inkling of what that might feel like from an up close and personal experience with intent.

Yeah, the struggle still gets to me.

And yet, there are those who would currently use that thought and these words against me to achieve just that, literally or metaphorically.

Last year, a teller at my bank had a lapel pin that read 8647. I liked it and told them so. I wonder if they or I will be indicted soon.

I still agree. 8647, or should I now amend that to 2547. Neither of which is likely to happen.

  2. Picture Notes:

This image was inspired by a button we saw someone wearing in a bank. Bold move. To create this I found several pictures of "I Voted" buttons to understand how the highlights would work on the shape. The shirt, tie, and jacket were from another picture. Combining them wasn't too hard, though they were built separately (in different files), then combined. One of the tougher aspects was matching the highlights and reflections. And while some may find the message offensive, it is our Freedom to speak freely that we emphasize here. May you find your voice this Independence Day.
